For Red Sox Fans Disheartened by the Opening Day Loss

First of all, they have 161 games left, so this is not a big setback. Second of all, they had a pretty good day at the plate; Big Papi had a key home run, and Alex Gonzalez went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Those worried about Jacoby Ellsbury needn’t have, as he went 2 for 4, including a double, and a walk. All in all, the Red Sox had 5 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks. Not bad.

The pitching was disappointing, but remember that Jon Lester often has a bad April, and usually does not heat up until mid-May. Josh Bard’s issues were a little more trying, but this could be attributed to opening day jitters. Josh was not the only pitcher to have a rough day on March 31-April 1. If you don’t believe me, consider these results:

  • Cincinnati Reds 7, Milwaukee Brewers 6
  • Toronto Blue Jays 13, Minnesota Twins 3 (!!!)
  • Arizona Diamondbacks 7, Colorado Rockies 6

… and my personal favorite

  • Chicago White Sox 15, Cleveland Indians 10

Wow.

  1. i hope you have more positive words tomorrow! one game, okay. we did that in 2007. and 2004. but the first two? that’s 2005. a much less happy year.
